Gamesa sets foot in Philippines with 54 MW wind turbines deal

Oct 30, 2013 - Spanish wind turbines maker Gamesa (MCE: GAM) said today it had entered the Philippines market after signing a deal to supply 27 turbines with a capacity of 2 MW each for the San Lorenzo wind farm constructed by Japanese Kanematsu Corp (TYO: 8020) in Guimaras island.

Thanks to the current agreement, Gamesa will consolidate its presence in Asia. The company is already active in China, India, Japan, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Vietnam, Taiwan and South Korea.

Under the terms of the contract, Gamesa will supply, assemble and commission the 27 turbines at the facility. Moreover, the Spanish company will maintain the wind farm for six years.

The turbines will be delivered over the course of 2014, while full commission of the project is scheduled for the end of next year.

Data of the Global Wind Energy Council shows the Philippines had a combined installed wind capacity of 33 MW at end-2011. The country is expected to install another 200 MW by 2015.
