Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTSpanish company Gamesa (BME:GAM) said Monday it will construct a 24-MW wind farm in Jamaica’s county of Middlesex for a unit of local power firm Petroleum Corp of Jamaica.
Under the contract, signed with Wigton Windfarm Ltd, the company will deliver and install 12 of its G80 2-MW turbines. Gamesa will ship its equipment in the third quarter of 2015. The company did not disclose the value of the deal.
The Wigton III wind farm, to be located in the Parish of Manchester, is expected to commence operations in February next year. The deal represents Gamesa’s debut on the Jamaican wind market, it noted.
Jamaica currently generates 9% of its electricity from renewable energy sources. As part of its 2009-2030 plan on energy, the country aims to hit 12.5% by 2015 and 20% by 2030.
Gamesa has installed and services more than 200 MW of wind parks in the Caribbean and Central America, including in Honduras, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, Cuba and Puerto Rico.
