Fiba Group unit eyes EBRD loan for 75 MW of new solar in Turkey
Sep 17, 2024 15:21 CESTSpain’s Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria SA (BME:BBVA), or BBVA, said on Wednesday that its Turkish subsidiary Garanti BBVA (IST:GARAN) has started an initiative to install solar panels on its corporate buildings and ATMs as part of sustainability efforts.
The project aims to prevent 160 tonnes of carbon emissions, the bank said.
The panels to be installed on buildings at Garanti’s Pendik Campus will have a capacity of 103 kW and an annual energy generation of 122 MWh. Additionally, the Turkish lender will place panels on the Gunesli Service Building with a capacity of 193 kW and an annual power output of 228 MWh.
As part of the initiative, solar panels have been already installed on 81 ATMs, generating 150 kWh per month. The output is expected to reach 60,000 kWh by the end of the year.
Garanti BBVA said that it will consume between 40% and 50% of the energy produced by an ATM per month.
The Turkish bank has previously installed solar panels on buildings in its Akdeniz and Bodrum branches and on the Sivas Customer Communication Center, with a combined capacity of 90 kW. With the new project at Pendik and Gunesli, the lender's total installed capacity is to reach about 400 kW.
