GDF Suez-led consortium promises 6,000 jobs in Normandy offshore wind power project

Mar 26, 2012 - A consortium led by French utility GDF Suez (EPA:GSZ) pledged on Monday to create 6,000 jobs if it wins three offshore wind-farm tenders in Normandy, northern France.
Within the project, 400 skilled jobs will be directly created in the ports of Ouistreham, Le Treport, Fecamp and Dieppe, according to the consortium's press release.
The consortium includes also builder Vinci (EPA:DG), engineering group Areva (EPA:AREVA) and financial specialist CDC Infrastructure.
The groups have joined forces, hoping to win a call for bids for 3,000 MW of wind power off France's coasts starting in 2015. The partners will install between 500 and 600 offshore turbines.
