GE To Develop 69 MW Wind Farm in Bulgaria

Global industrial giant General Electric said on Thursday it has teamed up with local real estate developer Winslow Group to launch its first wind farm in Bulgaria.

"The project, which is expected to generate up to 69 MW of power using GE wind turbines, will be located on agricultural land near the villages of Yagnilo, Stan and Pamoukchii in the Vetrino and Novi Pazar municipalities of northeastern Bulgaria," GE said in a statement.

It did not say what the value of the planned investment is.

The Winslow wind farm will feature GE's 2.5MW class wind turbine, which is designed to yield the highest annual energy production in its class.

"As the Winslow project will demonstrate, our technology can support Bulgaria's broader goals to diversify its energy sources and decrease its energy dependency on fossil fuels. Teaming with Winslow illustrates our strategy to partner with local companies as we work to help countries in Europe and worldwide meet their cleaner energy objectives," George Bises, Project Development Manager for GE GDSI said in the statement.

"The Bulgarian government is in the process of redefining its renewable energy policy, and the approval of a new renewable energy standard (RES) is expected within a few months. Our project not only supports Bulgaria's national clean energy goals, it also will create jobs in an undeveloped, rural area," Yanik Mekushin, CEO of Winslow Group's unit Winslow Wind Power, said in the same statement.
