Queensland Hydro picks contractors for 2-GW pumped storage project
Sep 18, 2024 6:05 CESTUS energy equipment manufacturer GE Vernova Inc (NYSE:GEV) has been selected to deliver an integrated battery energy storage system (BESS) solution for the second stage of the Supernode BESS project, set to add 250 MW/1,000 MWh at a site in Queensland, Australia.
The project’s sponsor, Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners, opted for GE Vernova again awarding the company the contract earlier this year for the Supernode stage 1, involving BESS integration of 250 MW/500 MWh.
GE Vernova said that it will be responsible for the supply and commissioning of the power conditioning systems, power plant controller SCADA systems, and capacitor bank\harmonic filter as well as integration engineering and GPS connection support.
“We believe GE Vernova’s product portfolio, engineering expertise, and project delivery capabilities align perfectly with the needs of the Supernode project,” said Ed Torres, Business Leader of GE Vernova’s Solar & Storage Solutions business. “This project is a testament to the strength of our value proposition and capabilities in this space".
Set in Brendale, a suburb in the City of Moreton Bay, the Supernode project will create a data centre complex and a BESS site of 750 MW across three planned stages. Australian power and gas retailer Origin Energy Ltd (ASX:ORG) contracted the capacity of the stages one and two.
