GEG's Port of Nigg wins support services job for Moray West

Global Energy Group (GEG), the owner of the Port of Nigg in Scotland, has secured a contract to provide preassembly support services at the port for 62 transition pieces to be installed at the 882-MW Moray West Offshore Wind Farm.

The project is being developed by the Ocean Winds joint venture between EDP Renovaveis SA (ELI:EDPR) and Engie SA (EPA:ENGI).

The task awarded to GEG involves a range of onsite services such as craneage, logistics, mounting ancillary equipment, as well as inspection and repair support. The transition prices are scheduled to begin arriving at the Port of Nigg later in 2023, with installation to start shortly thereafter and completion expected in 2024. GEG said the contract will support a number of jobs within the company and create new roles onsite at the Port of Nigg.

“Having successfully supported three previous offshore wind projects from the Port of Nigg, including Moray East, our team is very much looking forward to welcoming Ocean Winds back to site,” commented Charlie Morrison, operations director at GEG and Port of Nigg.

Moray West Offshore Wind Farm will consist of 60 units of Siemens Gamesa’s SG 14-222 DD wind turbine. Siemens Gamesa will use the Port of Nigg for the marshalling and pre-assembly of the wind turbine generators.
