Argentine power producer Genneia announced on Monday that its 162-MW La Elbita wind farm in the province of Buenos Aires reached commercial operation.

Its eighth wind farm and third in Buenos Aires province was made possible by an investment of over USD 240 million (EUR 225.9m), raised from domestic and international institutions, the company said. Genneia financed the La Elbita project with loans from Dutch development bank FMO an Development Finance Institute Canada (FinDev Canada) and through green bond issuance in the home market.

The wind farm, located near the town of Tandil on a 1,464-hectare (3,617.6 acres) area, is equipped with 36 turbines capable of generating 705 GWh of electricity per year. This output is meant to serve large industrial consumers through Argentina’s MATER green energy marketplace.

Earlier this year, Genneia surpassed a symbolic milestone of 1 GW of renewables, reaching 1,004 MW of operational wind and solar farms across the country. With La Elbita online, the company’s total installed wind and solar capacity climbed to 1,166 MW.

These plants will be joined by the 90-MW Malargue I and the 180-MW Anchoris solar farms, which are currently in different stages of construction, according to Genneia.
