BESS firm AESI plans Malaysian factory, enters new partnerships
Sep 12, 2024 12:13 CESTGentari Sdn Bhd, the clean energy platform of Malaysian state-owned oil and gas company Petronas, and Singapore-based energy and urban development company Sembcorp Industries Ltd (SGX:U96) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to partner on clean energy in Southeast Asia.
According to an announcement on Wednesday, the companies will study potential collaborations in trading of renewable energy from Southeast Asia or other mutually agreed locations. They will also explore low-carbon hydrogen supply, including the development of hydrogen production facilities and the transportation of hydrogen from Malaysia to Singapore.

“Through this strategic partnership with Sembcorp, Gentari aims to further accelerate the expansion of renewable energy and hydrogen-related initiatives,” said Gentari chief renewables officer Low Kian Min.
Koh Chiap Khiong, chief executive Singapore and Southeast Asia at Sembcorp Industries, commented that the collaboration underscores the potential of Malaysia’s fast-growing renewables sector.
Gentari is a relatively young platform with an ambition to reach 30 GW to 40 GW of renewables capacity.
Sembcorp has a 17.9-GW energy portfolio, including 11 GW of gross renewable energy capacity.
