Georgia unveils plan for 20-MW wind farm

Jul 18, 2013 - Construction is soon to commence on a 20-MW wind farm in the South Caucasus state of Georgia, Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze said Wednesday at a press conference.

Despite the fact that Georgia has huge wind energy potential, this will be the first wind power project for the country.

Kaladze will sign next week documents for plots of land needed for wind farms. Measurement tools will be installed at certain sites to gather information on the wind’s direction and speed.

According to a report in English-language newspaper AzerNews, researchers have concluded that the most suitable regions for wind farms in Georgia include the Javakheti region, the southern part of the Black Sea coast and high mountain areas in the Caucasus.
