Tenders for solar module supply and installation contracts, and civil and electrical works at a 5-MW solar project in Kakheti, Georgia are expected to start in the second or third quarter of 2017.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said this week that Georgian Solar Company LLC is considering the possibility of using the proceeds of a loan from the bank to financing contracts for the Udabno solar project. The photovoltaic (PV) park is planned for Kakheti’s municipality of Sagarejo and is touted as the first solar plant in Georgia.

Total investment in the facility is estimated at about USD 6 million (EUR 5.7m). Georgian Solar is a special purpose vehicle (SPV) fully owned by the state-owned JSC Georgian Energy Development Fund.
