German bioenergy association states sector importance for energy transition

Sep 27, 2013 - German bioenergy association BioEnergie e.V. once again stated yesterday that the country's intended energy transition could not be implemented without bioenergy.

In the frame of the 13th International trade fair and conference for wood energy in Augsburg, BioEnergie presented its view on the development of bionergy in Germany after the recent parliamentary elections.

As a producer of electricity, heat and fuel, the sector can be an important pillar in the future energy mix, with a market share of over 15% by 2030. Bioenergy should have a clear and indisputable place in the energy policy of the new German government and investment security should be guaranteed by a stable and reliable political framework, BioEnergie's chairman Helmut Lamp said.

According to BioEnergie, the success of the energy transition will depend on the further development of the market for bioenergy under observation of the ecological and social aspects of sustainability and with energy-efficient use of feedstock. Therefore, the politicians should bravely stick to their own targets for the sector.

The association said also that the energy transition policy of the new government needs to include the heat and fuel market as well. Heat production from renewables should take a centre place in the energy transition and clear and ambitious targets in that regard should be set, Lamp added.
