EIB, FirstRand Bank to provide EUR 400m for green projects in S Africa
Sep 13, 2024 10:36 CESTGerman renewables project developer Energiequelle GmbH has set up a local subsidiary in South Africa and opened an office in Cape Town, aiming to tap the country’s “extraordinary” potential for renewables development.
The parent company announced on Wednesday that Energiequelle South Africa Pty Ltd and its office at the Waterfront in the nation’s capital city will be managed by Stefan Sager. His appointment is effective from January 1, 2024.
Commenting on the market conditions in South Africa, the German developer highlighted the good wind and solar resources in the country and the government’s targets for expanding the installed renewable energy fleet through tender support mechanisms.
"Energiequelle has been involved in the development of wind projects in South Africa for some time now, also with cooperation partners. Now we want to provide even better local support for the process and add more wind and solar projects to our pipeline,” Stefan Sager said.
With more than 550 employees, Energiequelle is focused on the development of wind power, biogas and solar photovoltaic projects and is active in Germany, France, Finland and Poland. Its installed portfolio includes 850 plants totalling roughly 1.7 GW.
