World set to install 593 GW of new solar in 2024 - Ember
Sep 19, 2024 13:28 CESTJul 26, 2013 - The number of members of German energy cooperatives grew by more than 50% within the last 12 months to 131,000, German cooperative association Deutscher Genossenschafts- und Raiffeisenverband (DGRV) said Wednesday.
Around 90% of the members are private persons, DGVR said.
In addition, a total of some EUR 1.2 billion (USD 1.6bn) has so far been invested by energy cooperatives in citizens' power plants. Such renewable energy plants are already producing around 580 million kWh of clean electricity, which is enough to cover the needs of 160,000 households, the association calculated.
Energy cooperatives offer private persons the chance to invest in renewable energies in a decentralized pattern and contribute to the implementation of an environmentally-friendly system of energy generation.
