German Enertrag to sign wind power deal in Belarus soon - report

(ADPnews) - Jun 3, 2010 - German energy company Enertrag AG is on track to put pen to paper with Belarus on a wind power project construction deal this month.

Chairman of the board of the Renewable Energy Association, Semyon Kundas said yesterday for local telegraph agency BelTA that the deal between parties is almost ready. Enertrag's director will visit Belarus in June to reach the agreement on signing the document. Kundas added that the Belarus side is currently studying the company's tariffs on electric energy set for other countries.

Earlier this year, in April, BelTA reported that Enertrag plans to invest EUR 250 million (USD 308m) in a construction of a 80 MW wind farm in the Dzerzhinsk region, the province of Minsk. The capacity of the facility is likely to reach 160 MW when the second stage of the construction is completed.

Besides the wind farm in the Minsk province, a new wind power facility was proposed to be built in Grodno, western Belarus. According to Semyon, Belarusian specialists have been working with Chinese investors in the region. Moreover, the country is also in talks with other German companies on another clean power project -- biogas units.
