German town of Dachau to boost share of renewables - report

Aug 1, 2013 - Stadtwerke Dachau, the municipal owner-operated utility enterprise of the German town of Dachau, plans to boost the share of renewable energy in the town's energy mix, daily Sueddeutsche Zeitung reported today.

Dachau, which is located in Upper Bavaria, thus aims to reach a share of renewable energy of 53% by 2025, which is 10% more than the German government targets.

In addition, Stadtwerke Dachau will invest around EUR 22.8 million (USD 30.2m) in raising domestic electricity production by 71 GWh to 127 GWh by 2025. The municipal enterprise is able to cover around one-fourth of this amount on its own.

In 2012 Dachau operated hydropower plants as well as six solar parks.

The share of renewable energy in the town currently stands at 40%.

The main partners of Stadtwerke Dachau are Trianel GmbH and Energieallianz Bayern.
