German wind power agency urges govt to support onshore wind more

(ADPnews) - Jun 24, 2011 - The network agency for wind energy in Schleswig-Holstein, Windcomm, sent a position paper to the German Government, requesting that the revised Renewable Energy Act (EEG) provide for higher onshore wind power subsidies.

The government is currently working on the law's revision. The planned amendments have been criticised by a number of organisations, including Eurosolar and Fesa.

Windcomm finds it positive that the new legislation takes into account the current framework conditions. However, onshore and offshore power should not be put in opposition, the agency said. If it is to stop using nuclear power quickly, Germany needs to support the onshore and offshore wind industries simultaneously, Windcomm argued.

Germany plans to close all its nuclear power reactors by 2022. By 2020, renewable energy must account for 35% of Germany's energy mix and the installed offshore wind capacity must total 10 GW.
