J-Power signs solar VPPA for Tokyo Metro in Japan
Sep 18, 2024 15:26 CESTSep 5, 2013 - German photovoltaics (PV) project developer Wirsol Solar AG has made its first step on the Japanese solar market with a new contract for a facility on the island of Honshu.
The plant's construction will start at the beginning of 2014. The nearly 90,000 solar modules to be installed have a total capacity of 21.87 MW and will supply clean energy to around 6,800 households.
Wirsol's local partner is Japanese Chikyu Factory Service Co.
Japan is considered a key growth market for solar energy. Solar subsidies in the country are currently higher than anywhere else. Since the nuclear accident at Fukushima two years ago, Japan is pushing hard to diversify its energy system.
