World set to install 593 GW of new solar in 2024 - Ember
Sep 19, 2024 13:28 CESTJan 7, 2013 - The majority of Germans take measures to cut energy expenditure as the country's switch to renewables is inflating electricity bills, a poll has found.
About 41% of the polled said they are reducing the temperature dial on their thermostats or are putting on more clothes.
But the poll, based on interviews with 1,100 and conducted by inspection company Dekra, also showed that three-quarters of Germans are backing the planned shift to renewable energy sources.
About 86% said they try to use less electricity for cooking and also cut down on their water consumption.
Only 5% say they are not concerned about their energy bills.
About 80% blame rising energy costs on the pricing policy of big utilities, while 63% consider Germany's renewables drive to be the main reason for the increase. About 42% think that consumers only have themselves to blame as they waste too much energy.
