PNE wins 24 MW of onshore wind projects in German auction
Sep 19, 2024 8:35 CESTGermany installed new solar systems with a combined capacity of about 1.4 GW in July, bringing the total solar capacity in operation across the country to 92.2 GW.
According to data from the Federal Network Agency, new solar installations with a combined capacity of 9,343 MW were built in the first seven months of 2024. With fresh capacities of 2,216 MW, Bavaria led in new solar installations. It was followed by Baden-Wuerttemberg with 1,278 MW and North Rhine-Westphalia with 1,260 MW.
Of the solar capacities connected to the grid in July, 266.3 MW were subsidy-free, including 100.1 MW of ground-mounted installations and 166 MW of rooftop facilities. Subsidised facilities consisted of 400.6 MW of ground-mounted solar systems and 766.8 MW of rooftop installations.
Unlike the solid development of solar capacity, onshore wind energy deployment remained largely at the level of the previous month, with newly built capacity totalling 184.6 MW in July compared with 186.5 MW in June. Including the new installations, Germany’s gross onshore wind capacity in operation reached 62.1 GW, with 29,645 wind turbines.
In July, Germany approved new onshore wind projects with a combined capacity of 827.4 MW, down from 1,468 MW in June. Between January and July, 6,479 MW of projects were granted permissions.
When it comes to offshore wind, an additional 170 MW of turbines were switched on in July, compared with 155 MW in June and 222.3 MW in May.
The table provides more details about new solar and wind installations in Germany in 2024:
