Germany has opened a tender to promote the development of 600 MW of biomethane capacity, the Federal Network Agency has announced.

The deadline for submitting a project is September 1, 2024. As the day falls on Sunday, submissions can be made by September 2, the agency said. The maximum value for the bidding is EUR 0.2103 (USD 0.23) per kWh.

To participate in the tender, projects must have received approval or have been reported in the market data register by August 5.

The latest auction comes after no bids were placed in a previous tender round, the Federal Network Agency said in June. No proposals were submitted in an earlier auction in 2023, either.

According to a study by the German association of energy and water industries BDEW from 2022, Germany has the potential to feed 100 TWh of biomethane into the gas network per year by the end of the decade.
