World set to install 593 GW of new solar in 2024 - Ember
Sep 19, 2024 13:28 CESTFeb 26, 2013 – Germany and South Africa have formed an energy partnership, targeting cooperation in the fields of renewable energy and electricity network expansion, as well as energy research and technology, SolarServer reported yesterday, citing Germany's Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi).
For this purpose, the state secretary of the ministry Stefan Kapferer and the South-African energy minister Dipuo Peters signed the necessary Memorandum of Understanding.
The countries will also join efforts to enhance energy efficiency and improve capturing and storage of carbon dioxide (CCS).
Based on existing energy agreements between Germany and South Africa, the partnership aims to encourage private sector activities in the energy segment. The cooperation will be monitored by high-level working groups, while thematic sub-working groups, comprising representatives from the government and industry, will be responsible for the practical aspects.
According to BMWi, South Africa has become a highly attractive market for German companies from the renewable energy sector. Significant growth potential is seen on the solar and wind energy markets.
Between February 25 and February 28, a delegation of German photovoltaic companies will visit South Africa, seeking to enter business talks with their local counterparts, the ministry further said.
