Germany, Tajikistan discuss cooperation on green power

Sep 13, 2013 - Stephan Kohler, head of German energy agency Dena, met Tajik President Emomali Rahmon on Thursday to discuss possible cooperation on future renewable energy projects, the agency said.

Potential cooperation projects and financing options were discussed at the Tajik-German economic forum yesterday in Dushanbe, Tajikistan's capital. Dena presented its project involving environmentally friendly and secure energy supply for Tajikistan's hospitals through heat and power co-generation plants. The agency will also examine the potential for biomass generation in the country.

Tajikistan is aiming at expanding its renewable energy sector, focusing on hydropower, solar energy and biomass. Rahmon called on German companies to get involved in hydropower projects in the country.

Tajikistan plans to derive 10% of its electricity from solar, wind and biomass sources by 2020.
