PNE wins 24 MW of onshore wind projects in German auction
Sep 19, 2024 8:35 CESTGerman renewables developer known until Monday as ABO Wind formally rebranded as ABO Energy and changed the legal form.
On July 1, the company entered the new name and form in the Wiesbaden District Court commercial register, reflecting the change of legal structure from a stock corporation (AG) to a partnership limited by shares, abbreviated as KGaA in German.

Going forward, the ABO brand will be formally known as ABO Energy GmbH & Co KGaA, or ABO Energy KGaA for short. The stock exchange listing of the shares (ETR:AB9) will remain unchanged.
Most of ABO’s subsidiaries around the world have already adopted the name ABO Energy, the company said.
The new name and legal form were approved by the majority of shareholders, though not without opposition, in October 2023. The aim of the legal form change was to preserve the influence of ABO’s two founders, Jochen Ahn and Matthias Bockholt, on company decisions and corporate culture in the event of future capital increases.
Currently, the Ahn and Bockholt families each own a 26% stake in ABO Energy.
The rebranding to ABO Energy was considered in parallel with the change of legal form proceedings. The company said it had outgrown the name ABO Wind some time ago, as it expanded into the fields of solar, energy storage and hydrogen.
