Germany’s E.ON plans 100 MW wind parks in Romania by end-2014 – Bloomberg

German power utility E.ON plans to build at least 100 megawatts (MW) of wind power capacity in Romania by the end of next year, Bloomberg reported.

The new wind parks could reach as much as 300 MW if Romania keeps a sufficient level of incentives, Bloomberg quoted the CEO of E.ON’s local unit, Frank Hajdinjak, as saying earlier this week.

The investment is pending final board decision with the cost of one megawatt estimated at 1.6 million euro ($2.1 million), according to Hajdinjak.

Romania is seeking to attract about 5.0 billion euro in energy investments through 2020 to meet rising power demand without increasing emissions, Bloomberg added.

The country's energy regulator, ANRE, has said it plans to propose a cut in the number of green certificates offered for renewable energy production starting from next year.

Romania added 923 MW to its installed wind power capacity in 2012, reaching a total of 1,905 MW at the end of the year, according to a report by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC). The Southeast European country ranked 10th in the world in terms of new wind power capacity installed in 2012, accounting for a 2.1% share.
