German renewable energy investor and contractor GRIPS Energy has launched its first photovoltaic (PV) solar plant in Senegal, a 604-kWp ground-mounted facility at a farm owned by local agricultural company la Societe des Cultures Legumieres (SCL).

The site is located in Diama, in the Saint-Louis region, northwest Senegal.

GRIPS had been in charge of the entire project development process, from the initial feasibility study and customised plant design to installation. Following completion, the German company will continue ensuring the plant’s performance and maintenance through its local partner.

“Project implementation went smoothly, and we can already see the reduction in our electricity bill. We are even thinking of expanding the plant with an energy storage system,” said Hamedine BA, SCL's technical officer for the solar plant.

The investment made in the project was not disclosed.
