Qair, EPCG to explore opportunities for renewables in Montenegro
Sep 12, 2024 15:32 CESTMontenegro's government said that it has signed a 101.3 million euro ($119.8 million) contract with Germany's WPD Windmanager for the construction of a 70 MW wind farm in the Balkan country.
The wind farm will be located in the village of Brajici, near Budva, and will produce 220 GWh of electricity per year, enough to meet the needs of about 50,000 households, the Montenegrin government said in a statement on Wednesday.
"Montenegro has found mechanisms to provide a serious and responsible investor like us with legal certainty and clear deadlines for the next steps that both parties will have to take to launch the wind farm in an ambitious but achievable four-year term," Zoran Obradovic, director of WPD Adria, the Croatian unit of WPD, said after the signing of a contract for the lease of state-owned land for the construction of the facility.
In October 2019, a consortium of WPD and Montenegro's Vjetroelektrana Budva placed the sole bid in a tender for the construction of the Brajici wind farm, committing to invest 101.3 million euro in the project.
