Gestamp Solar to build 10 MWp PV park in Kuwait

Oct 3, 2014 - Spanish firm Gestamp Solar said yesterday it will develop a 10-MWp solar scheme in Kuwait for a unit of state-owned industrial conglomerate Kuwait Petroleum Corp.

Under the USD-28-million (EUR 22.1m) agreement with Kuwait Oil Co, Gestamp will provide the engineering and construction services for the solar photovoltaic (PV) farm. It will also be responsible for its operation and maintenance (O&M).

The Umm Gudair Field solar park will utilise more than 32,000 modules. It is expected to generate approximately 17.6 GWh of electricity annually, enough to offset 9,100 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per year. Completion is scheduled for mid-2015.

The project would be the first utility-scale solar PV park in the country as well as the company's first scheme in Kuwait and in the Middle East as a whole, Gestamp noted. It has developed more than 500 MW of PV projects worldwide.
