US biofuels company Gevo Inc (NASDAQ:GEVO) and existing partner Viva Energy Australia Pty Ltd will work together to develop commercial and advocacy relationships to boost the use of renewable hydrocarbons in Australia.

The two firms are collaborating on activities in Australia to establish the technical and commercial feasibility of converting biomass into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable gasoline. Gevo said in a statement on Thursday that a newly signed heads of agreement (HOA) will further solidify their cooperation.

Viva Energy is an energy firm that exclusively supplies Shell fuels and lubricants in Australia. It operates a refinery and more than 20 import terminals through which it supplies over 1,260 service stations across the country.

“Through their terminals in Brisbane and as the JV operator of the Brisbane Airport hydrant system, we have worked with Viva Energy on several occasions to supply SAF to Queensland based flights,” said Gevo CEO Patrick Gruber.
