Horizon Power, the state-owned energy provider in Western Australia, has hired GHD for the preliminary engineering of a project to build shared-use transmission infrastructure in the Pilbara region to respond to the growing power demand and renewables adoption.

The Pilbara Green Link envisages the installation of 550 kilometres (341 miles) of high-voltage 330-kV transmission lines that will connect Horizon Power’s current transmission infrastructure with the Australian Renewable Energy Hub (AREH) and other proposed large-scale renewable developments.

The engineering consultant has been hired to provide the preliminary design of the transmission lines and substations, it said on Wednesday.

The preliminary engineering phase is scheduled for completion by March 2025.
