Dutch firm Gigawatt Global said Thursday that, alongside its project partners, it has completed the 8.5-MW solar farm in Rwanda and will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on February 5.

Gigawatt Global owns a 20% stake in the USD-23.7-million (EUR 21m) plant, while Norwegian photovoltaic (PV) solutions provider Scatec Solar and the Norwegian Investment Fund for Developing Countries (Norfund) hold the rest.

The project received various types of financing from the Netherlands Development Finance Co, the Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund (EAIF), Norfund, KLP Norfund Investments, the US government and Finland’s Energy and Environment Partnership (EEP).

The solar farm, located in the Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village, has a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) in place with the Rwanda Energy, Water and Sanitation Authority (EWSA).
