French agrivoltaics firm Green Lighthouse Developpement (GLHD) announced that local authorities in the French department of Landes have given the go-ahead to a 450-MWp project, allowing it to progress towards the next stages of development, including design.

The Terr'Arbouts project is an initiative launched by a group of 35 farmers back in 2020. It will cover 46 agricultural terrains spanning a combined 700 hectares of which 200 hectares will accommodate solar panels.

The initiative was started by the farmers’ association Pujo Arbouts Territoire Agrivoltaisme (PATAV), while GLHD was tapped as project manager. It is planned to combine clean electricity generation with the production of fodder crops, oilseeds, and crops rich in omega-3.

The project is expected to be finalised in 2028. Once commissioned, the site will produce 650 GWh of clean electricity annually, enough to power 140,000 homes, GLHD noted in a press statement released on Monday.
