Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTAfrica-focused independent power producer (IPP) Globeleq said on Friday that its 40-MW/52-MWp Malindi solar farm in Kenya is fully operational.
The plant has been exporting power into the national grid since mid-December 2021. Its output is sold to national distribution company Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
Globeleq and its project partner, Africa Energy Development Corporation (AEDC), built the USD-69-million (EUR 60.9m) solar farm in Langobaya, Malindi District. Also part of the project was the construction of a new 220-kV Weru substation, which has been handed over to KPLC and is now part of the national grid infrastructure, Globeleq said.
“Malindi is our tenth operational solar PV plant in Africa and cements our unique position as a leader in large scale solar generation,” commented CEO Mike Scholey.
