Goldwind lands 51-MW turbine order in Cuba

Dec 19, 2013 - Chinese wind turbine maker Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology (HKG:2208) said yesterday it had won a deal to deliver 51 MW of turbines for a wind project in Cuba.

The equipment will be used for wind farm proposed by local firm Energoimport, part of Union Electrica (UNE), in the Las Tunas province.

The order, secured by the Chinese company’s unit Goldwind International Holdings HK Ltd, calls for the supply of 34 pieces of 1.5-MW direct-drive permanent magnet machines. Goldwind will also deliver supplementary services such as turbine transportation, installation and running trial operations. The company will provide a two-year warranty for maintenance, as well.

Turbine deliveries for the La Herradura project are to be completed by end-2014, while the installation of the machines is to be wrapped up by June 2015. The wind farm is expected to be tied to the local power grid by September 2015

The order represents Goldwind’s second order in Cuba. The turbines from its first contract in the country were delivered in 2009. The Chinese company has supplied almost 450 MW of wind turbines outside China, it noted.
