Goldwind Americas, a unit of Chinese wind turbine maker Goldwind Science & Technology Co Ltd (HKG:2208), announced on Wednesday the sale of a 55-MW wind farm in Panama to the local subsidiary of US-based AES Corp (NYSE:AES).

Located on Panama’s southern coast in the province of Cocle, the Penonome I Wind Project, as it is named, consists of 22 Goldwind GW109/2500 permanent magnet direct-drive turbines.

Originally owned by Union Eolica Panamena (UEP), the wind project was bought by Goldwind in 2012 and finalised in 2014. It was not only the company's first wind asset in the central American country but also Panama’s initial incursion into wind energy, Goldwind Americas' CEO David Sale said.

Goldwind Americas has committed to continue support of the plant’s operations "at industry-leading availability levels," the company noted.
