Google Cloud to buy wind power for Polish ops

US technology conglomerate Alphabet Inc’s (NASDAQ:GOOGL) search engine giant Google LLC has sealed a deal to purchase green power from a 50.4-MW wind farm to be built in southern Poland.

The power purchase agreement (PPA) has been signed with Polish telecoms company Polsat Plus Group, the latter announced in a recent statement.

The contracted power will be sourced from a facility in the village of Przyrow, Czestochowa County, which is expected to become operational in the fourth quarter of 2024. It will be used by the US firm’s cloud computing services unit Google Cloud.

The Przyrow project is being realised by Polsat Plus and Polish energy group ZE PAK SA. The 14-turbine site is expected to be producing about 105 GWh of green electricity annually.

Last month, Polsat Plus' unit Cyfrowy Polsat SA secured PLN 360 million (USD 84.9m/EUR 80.6m) in debt from Switzerland-based EFG Bank Ltd to advance the development of the wind project.

Polsat Plus has been investing in clean energy since 2021 as a third business segment within the group. Currently, its installed clean energy capacity amounts to around 330 MW and is expected to reach 740 MW in 2025.
