Greek industrial and energy group Metlen Energy & Metals (ATH:MYTIL), formerly known as Mytilineos, has inaugurated an 89-MW solar farm in the Coquimbo region of Chile, the regional energy ministry said in a press release on Friday.

The Dona Antonia solar farm, as it is known, boasts 151,920 modules and a production output that can meet electricity consumption needs of around 77,000 homes.

Metlen invested USD 65 million (EUR 59.5m) in the Dona Antonia project, which came from the company's 588-MWp build-to-own portfolio in Chile. It is the second of four solar projects in that portfolio to be completed.

The first one, Willka, was inaugurated in late December 2023.

All four solar farms have a power purchase agreement (PPA) in place with Chilean utility Enel Generacion Chile.

According to a press release that Metlen distributed to Chilean media, the Dona Antonia solar farm will be paired with a battery energy storage system at the end of 2025. The two remaining solar projects in the portfolio will enter into service in 2024.

Dona Antonia is connected to the Chilean grid and with that, the Coquimbo region reached 602 MW of installed solar photovoltaic capacity distributed between 61 plants, the regional energy ministry added.
