PPC Renewables, a wholly-owned unit of Greek electric utility PPC SA (ATH:PPC), has launched construction of a 140-MW wind farm at a site in the Vaslui County, eastern Romania.

The project will install 23 pieces of the GE Vernova 6.1-MW wind turbines that will be connected to the grid by the end of 2025. The high wind potential of the region will push the wind farm to produce around 370 GWh of electricity annually, which would be enough to power approximately 62,000 households, PPC said in a press release on Tuesday.

PPC Renewables operates more than 700 MW in Romania currently. With the new wind farm, the PPC Group’s total installed renewable energy capacity in the country will climb to about 850 MW.

The 140-MW wind project is part of the organic development of PPC Renewables’ portfolio. The Greek group also made M&A moves in Romania, acquiring an 84-MW wind farm from Russia’s Lukoil earlier this year and taking over the Romanian business of Italian peer Enel SpA (BIT:ENEL) in October 2023.

The PPC Group says it currently has 4.7 GW of renewables installed across Greece and Romania.
