Greece downsizes target for 3rd battery storage tender - report
Sep 18, 2024 10:26 CESTGreece connected to the grid 542.8 MW of wind farms in 2023, bringing its cumulative installed wind power generation capacity to 5,226 MW, the latest statistics by the Hellenic Scientific Association of Wind Energy (ELETAEN) show.
The Balkan country commissioned 153 new turbines in the past year and marked a 11.6% year-on-year increase in terms of capacity deployments. The newly-installed machines are located in the regions of Central Greece, Western Macedonia, Thessaly.
The additions for the year represent an annual investment of over EUR 600 million (USD 653.6m).
ELETAEN’s statistics show that more than 850 MW of wind farms were under construction at the end of December, around 300 MW of which are expected to start feeding electricity into the grid within the next 12 months.
According to ELETAEN, Greece’s installed wind power capacity will reach 6,500 MW within the next three years. Currently, the Central Greece region accommodates more than half of the national installations, or 2,293 MW, followed by Peloponnese with 639 MW and Eastern Macedonia and Thrace with 534 MW.
