Nordex bags 100-MW turbine supply deal for Canadian project
Nov 12, 2024 10:27 CESTGreece’s Metlen Energy & Metals (ATH:MYTIL), formerly known as Mytilineos, has opened a new head office in Calgary, Alberta, amid efforts to grow on the Canadian market following the recent acquisition of a GW-scale solar portfolio.
The office is Metlen’s first North American headquarters and will serve as a hub for engineers, project managers and business development experts, Metlen said on Wednesday.
The Greek company expects the opening of the new location to provide it with “unique opportunities” to enhance its business by developing solar projects across the Canadian province. The move comes more than a year after the company agreed to acquire a 1.4-GW DC portfolio of five solar projects in Alberta from local solar and energy storage developer Westbridge Energy Corporation. Those projects, with a total estimated capex investment of CAD 1.7 billion (USD 1.22bn/EUR 1.14bn), are scheduled to be completed in 2026-2027 and generate 2.1 TWh of renewable energy annually.
“Our focus on complex energy solutions aligns with the growing demand for clean energy across North America, and we believe that through collaborative efforts, we can drive meaningful change,” said Nikos Papapetrou, Executive Director, M Renewables, Metlen Energy & Metals.
Currently, Metlen has 11 GW of renewable energy assets globally.
