Green business stands for 10.4% of Danish exports in 2010

Nov 27, 2012 - Green exports stood for 10.4% of all Danish exports in 2010 and a total 8.5% of all employed in 2010 were involved in green production, according to new statistics by the Danish energy agency.

Yesterday, the agency published its first green business report, which covers the production of green technologies, goods and services by Danish companies. The new statistics is aimed at following the development of green business in Denmark as well as its significance for the Danish economy as a whole.

In 2010, the country's green business had a turnover exceeding DKK 250 billion (USD 43.4bn/EUR 33.5bn), or 9.2% of the total turnover. The value of green exports amounted to DKK 80 billion, or 10.4% of all exports, which corresponds to an increase by 1 percentage point compared with 2005.

The number of employed in green production was 106,000 in 2010. According to the new statistics, a total 22,000 companies in Denmark, or one out of five enterprises, produce and sell one or several green products.

In terms of turnover, the biggest segment in the energy area was renewable energy technologies, with revenues of DKK 104 billion in 2010. In the environment area, the largest segment was waste management, with a turnover of DKK 55 billion.
