Portuguese renewable energy company Greenvolt - Energias Renovaveis SA (ELI:GVOLT) has acquired a project to develop a 90-MW wind power plant in Iceland.

The transaction was carried out through the Portuguese firm’s subsidiary V-Ridium Power Group and marks its entry into the Icelandic market, Greenvolt said on Monday.

According to the Portuguese firm, this scheme is the first utility-scale wind project in the country and should help Iceland continue to meet all its energy needs with 100% renewable sources in the future.

Greenvolt CEO Joao Manso Neto noted that the entry into the Icelandic market, a reference in terms of renewable energies, is a source of pride and an important step for the company as it reinforces its global growth strategy.
