Sep 02, 2024 10:55 CESTJun 12, 2014 - US firm GT Advanced Technologies (NASDAQ:GTAT) said today it will supply monocrystalline furnaces for Qatar Solar Energy’s (QSE) new photovoltaic (PV) components manufacturing facility in Doha.
Under the terms of the contract, GT Advanced will deliver furnaces of the HiCz 200 model for the QSE plant, which at present has a production capacity of 300 MW with plans to expand it to 2,500 MW. The equipment order is pending government approvals and financing.
GT’s furnaces will be used for the production of n-type wafers for solar cells with efficiencies of over 22%, Dave Keck, executive vice president of GT's solar business, stated.
The Qatari renewable energy company makes PV components designed for sun-belt regions and is also engaged in research, technology development and solar project development. Its plant is touted as the largest of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
