Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTRenewables supplied 38.29% of electricity to Guatemala in June, slightly up from 38.16% registered in May, according to the monthly report by the country’s National Electric Energy Commission (CNEE).
Guatemala’s sugarcane harvest season, locally known as zafra, ended in May leading to further shrinking of the share of bagasse cogeneration. The bagasse share declined to 1.34% in June from 8.75% registered in May. In turn, coal took over the power mix, accounting for a 52.34% share of the country’s electricity supply.
Hydropower increased its share to 31.65% from 24.97% observed in May. Smaller increases were registered in the wind and solar power generation, which had a share of 1.56% and 1.62%, respectively.
All sources together, including the interconnection with Mexico, produced 1,052.3 GWh.
