Sonnedix buys 80-MW solar farm in Italy, more purchases to follow
Sep 19, 2024 14:32 CESTFrench luxury group Kering SA (EPA:KER), owner of brands such as Gucci, Saint Laurent and Bottega Veneta, will be powering its newly-built international logistics hub in Northern Italy with solar power.
Singapore-based solar cell and panel maker Maxeon Solar Technologies Ltd (NASDAQ:MAXN) announced today that on behalf of Kering it will equip a 12.7-MWp rooftop solar array on two adjacent buildings in Trecate by August 2021.
The SunPower spin-off will deploy upwards of 31,000 solar panels on more than 55,160 square metres in total to produce over 13.5 GWh of clean electricity a year. It noted that the hub is designed to be energy positive, meaning that it will generate more energy than it will consume.
"Once finished, the shell, core warehouses and the offices will be LEED-certified and are expected to achieve a Platinum rating – with this hub thus becoming the first LEED Platinum-certified warehouse in Europe,” said Lindsey Wiedmann, chief legal officer and ESG Lead at Maxeon Solar Technologies.
General contractor Techbau will work together with Bergamo-based SunPower premier partner Kennew to implement the project.
