Gulf Oil launches another E85 ethanol station in Massachusetts

Aug 31, 2012 - US motor fuels supplier Gulf Oil LP said yesterday it had opened another fueling station for E85, an ethanol fuel blend of up to 85%, on the Massachusetts Turnpike.

The company opened the station with the support of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs. Gulf Oil now runs three E85 fueling stations at Service Plazas on the Turnpike, including the new one at the Charlton East Service Plaza. Three more are planned.

Data from the National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition show that there are over 2,400 E85 ethanol fueling stations throughout the US. In the Commonwealth of Massachusetts alone the number of flex fuel vehicles (FFVs), the ones that can use the blend, exceeds 100,000, Gulf Oil said.

The company cited a study by E85Prices.com showing that in June, US drivers saved around USD 0.45 (EUR 0.36) per gallon by using E85 and not conventional gasoline.

Gulf Oil launched its first E85 fueling station in Massachusetts in October 2008 at Logan Airport.
