German hydrogen network adds Antwerp-Bruges port
Nov 12, 2024 15:35 CESTThe proposed H2med hydrogen corridor from the Iberian Peninsula to Northwest Europe on Thursday launched a Call for Interest to assess the needs of future infrastructure users across the hydrogen value chain.
The project involves Portugal, Spain, France and Germany and is led by their transmission system operators (TSOs) Portugal’s REN, Spain’s Enagas, France’s GRTgaz and Terega, and Germany’s OGE.

The Call for Interest seeks to gauge the needs all across the corridor with particular focus on the national hydrogen backbones that the five project promoters intend to build by 2030. The call was launched at a webinar in Madrid and is open to interested parties by December 18. It is expected to help to optimise infrastructure design and establish operational requirements.
The H2med corridor includes a hydrogen interconnection between Portugal and Spain, linking Celorico da Beira and Zamora and called CelZa, with a capacity of 0.75 million tonnes per year. It also includes a maritime pipeline connecting Barcelona in Spain to Marseille in France (BarMar), with an annual capacity of 2 million tonnes.
Both interconnections are part of the list of Projects of Common Interest (PCI) that was published on April 8. The announcement says that on October 22 the five TSOs submitted their applications to the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) funding to carry out studies for both PCI.
