Hanwha Q Cells denies REC's patent infringement claims

Hanwha Q Cells on Friday refuted REC Group’s allegations of patent infringement and said that the Norwegian company’s complaints are “without technical and legal merit”.

As previously announced, REC Group filed a patent infringement lawsuit in China against a unit of its competitor soon after defending itself from a similar move. REC said that the patent in question relates to its split cell and junction box technology, which it developed in-house and is “a key feature” of its advanced solar panels.

“The technology mentioned in REC’s statement is simply about the interconnections within the solar module. There are doubts about the validity of the patent on this technology, as the patent application for the technology had been rejected in Japan as of 2019,” the South Korean solar cell manufacturer responded.

Hanwha Q Cells added it is considering all legal avenues, including a potential petition to invalidate REC’s alleged patent.
