British battery energy storage systems (BESS) owner and operator Harmony Energy Income Trust plc (LON:HEIT) on Thursday said it has kicked off commercial operations at two battery sites at home, adding a combined energy storage capacity of almost 83 MW.

Two commissioning of the facilities has expanded the company’s total installed capacity to 395.4 MW/790.8 MWh and made its entire portfolio operational.

Specifically, the Wormald Green BESS has a capacity of 33 MW/66 MWh and the Hawthorn Pit site has a size of 49.9 MW/99.8 MWh. Both of them utilise the liquid-cooled technology of Shanghai-based green tech company Envision Energy and will provide energy trading, capacity services, and frequency regulation services. Optimisation services will be provided through software by BP’s platform Open Energi.

The batteries will be able to store enough electricity to cover the demand of about 200,000 homes for two hours.

“To have completed construction of all eight projects in the portfolio since the IPO of HEIT plc in late 2021 is a remarkable achievement and is a testament to the skills and dedication of our key suppliers [..],” said Max Slade, director of Harmony Energy Advisors Ltd.

In August, Harmony Energy successfully energised its 35-MW/70-MWh Rusholme BESS in North Yorkshire.
