Haventus has secured a GBP-100-million (USD 125.4m/EUR 116.2m) loan to advance its project to redevelop a former oil and gas fabrication site in Scotland into a port facility dedicated to offshore wind deployment in the North Sea.

The UK-based firm has taken a final investment decision (FID) and construction works have been started on the site at the Ardersier Port located outside the city of Inverness in the Scottish Highlands.

The joint credit facility has been obtained from UK Infrastructure Bank (UKIB) and the Scottish National Investment Bank with GBP 50 million investment by each, the parties announced jointly on Monday.

Haventus began the redevelopment of Ardersier Port, the former McDermott fabrication site, last year after receiving an initial GBP-300-million investment commitment from US investment firm Quantum.

The Ardersier Port will offer a 450-acre site with quayside access and suitable infrastructure to support industrial-scale deployment of fixed and floating offshore wind. It will allow the marshalling, integration, manufacturing and assembly of offshore wind components as well as the decommissioning of the aged oil and gas infrastructure in the North Sea. The project includes the construction of a new 650-metre (2,132 ft) quay wall and associated quayside, among other initiatives.

Once fully operational, which is expected in 2025, the Ardersier Port is expected to be the largest dedicated offshore wind deployment port facility in Scotland, supporting the build-out of the ScotWind and INTOG project pipeline.
